The Omm Mountain Raid Pant is an insulated overnight camp or winter hill day pant using the same level of insulation as our sleeping bags. Combining the PointZero wind shell with 60g Primaloft Gold filling to create a pant ideal for cold and wet conditions. The Omm Mountain Raid also offers a alternative to a full sleeping bag and insulation layer when combined with the Mountain Raid Jacket & Mountain Raid Foot Pod to create a minimalist sleeping system.

Our Thoughts: 

For longer trips in the winter or wet trips in the summer mountains, I prefer primaloft, or rather synthetic insulation. While any sleeping bag or insulated clothing that gets wet will lose it's warming capabilities, the small amounts of body moisture gathered by daily use is usually less costly to insulation. However down, even hydrophobic down will clump eventually and lose it's warmth much faster than synthetic insulation. With that said, the OMM mountain raid synthetic pants have become my go to synthetic pants in recent months since it's release. I am a huge fan of OMM gear, and the Mountain raid series is no exception. The Mountain raid jacket is by far my favorite synthetic jacket. The fit, weight and warmth is hard to beat. I find the Omm mountain raid pants to hold the same quality as the jacket and other Omm clothing.

 

While pants in general are rather straightforward, and honestly rather boring to write about, the Mountain raid pants from the OMM offer something different, and when combined with the Mountain raid jacket and Mountain raid Food Pod, creates a pretty cool, useful sleep system for most hiking needs. The full system can even be used inside a sleeping bag for a total stack system that could be rather warm even in the middle of winter. In the summer this suddenly becomes perhaps the most useful sleep system setup I have ever tested. Not only do you have a pair of pants that become a sleeping bag, but you also have a jacket that then combines to make a cocoon style sleep system without the need for an extra, seperate sleeping bag.

 

All in all, the omm mountain raid pants is an excellent addition to an ultralight sleep system for hiking or trail running.
